Harnessing the Power of Social Media for Social Change
Medan (Mimbar) - Minister of Communications and Information Rudiantara, US Ambassador Robert Blake, and KOPHI launched the "Social Media for Social Good", in Digital Valley, Jakarta, Tuesday (13/1).
Programs to improve digital literacy is showing a series of workshops during 2015 in six cities in Indonesia, namely Jambi, Makassar, Bangka, Samarinda, Kupang, and Ternate.
Armed with a penchant for the people of Indonesia will social media and digital devices, these workshops will help bridge the gap in areas outside the major cities and / or Java. These areas are most in need of attention in terms of the environment (forests, wildlife, water), education, and entrepreneurial skills.
The program "Social Media for Social Good" is designed to address the need for digital literacy parties involved in the field of environment and education, as well as entrepreneurs. Each workshop will involve 50-100 participants from the environmental sector, education, and business, which will get guidance on how to harness the power of digital technology to address local issues (or at the national level).
The participants consisted of representatives of NGOs, teachers, school administrators, students, entrepreneurs, and representatives of civil society. The program is structured and organized by KOPHI, an Indonesian NGO active youth training and workshops to address environmental issues and other issues concerning the community.
In addition to the US Embassy, the Indonesian government, and KOPHI, a number of experts from the private sector are also invited to share experiences and develop specific training modules. Collaboration between government and the private sector to empower civil society with the tools and knowledge to increase engagement in digital activities of this kind are also able to have a tremendous multiplier effect.
